CIS-2-Butene is a flammable, colorless gas at room temperature. As a member of the alkene group of hydrocarbons, CIS-2-Butene and other alkenes serve as intermediates in the preparation of many organic compounds. CIS-2-Butene is classified as a simple asphyxiant and is nontoxic. At higher concentrations it can act as an anesthetic. It may cause frostbite if the gas comes in contact with the skin.
