Ethylene is a highly flammable, colorless gas that has a faint musty and sweet smell. This gas is nontoxic, but is hazardous as an asphyxiant or flammable substance. Ethylene is often used as an anesthetic drug. Inhalation is not harmful to the respiratory, circulatory or other systems. Inhalation is only fatal if the gas deprives the lungs of oxygen.
