Hydrogen Chloride, also known as hydrochloric acid, has a strong, suffocating odor and fumes strongly in moist air. This results in a highly irritating effect on body tissues. Chemically, Hydrogen Chloride is noncorrosive and mostly inactive in the anhydrous state. This gas is toxic and causes severe irritation to the skin and eyes upon contact. If inhalation occurs, it can also cause sever irritation to the upper respiratory tract. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations can cause death.
