Hydrogen Sulfide is a toxic, flammable, colorless gas with an offensive odor frequently referred to as smelling like "rotten eggs". In very high concentrations it is instantly fatal if inhaled. It is also irritating to the eyes and upper respiratory tract in low concentrations. Sulfer Dioxide and water is formed when it burns in air. It is soluble in alcohol, petroleum solvents, crude petroleum and water. Hydrogen sulfide is used commercially to to manufacture elementary sulfer, to precipitate sulfides of metals and purify hydrocholric and sulfuric acid. It is also employed as a reagent in analytical chemistry.
