Isobutylene is a flammable, colorless gas with an unpleasant odor which is likened to that of coal gas. Isobutylene is commonly used in the organic synthesis and production of high octane aviation gasoline. It is most commonly used to make Butyl rubber, comprising 98% of the raw material that is used. This gas is mildly irritating to the mucous membranes, does have some degree of anesthetic action and can be a simple asphyxiant.
