Trans-2-Butene is a flammable, colorless gas at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. As a member of the alkene group of hydrocarbons, Trans-2-Butene and other alkenes serve as intermediates in the preparation of many organic compounds. Trans-2-Butene is classified as a simple asphyxiant and is nontoxic. At higher concentrations it can act as an anesthetic. It may cause frostbite if the gas comes in contact with the skin.
